They have studied and trained for years to qualify as part of the Dragon Spirit INC Team, and their primary goal is to assist you in being the best you can be.

Our carefully structured programs go far beyond punching, blocking, and kicking. We will help you acquire effective self-defense skills and provide you with a comprehensive, personal development program. It is our goal to raise the quality of life for all our students in every way possible.

Although we honor Martial Arts traditions that go back centuries, we are dynamic and are constantly seeking new and innovative ways to enthuse and excite our students.

At our Academy we also host various activities and events for everyone’s convenience and enjoyment. We have parties for all major holidays, sleepovers, Day Camps on Professional Days, an annual Anniversary with Academy Awards, and many more exciting events. We also offer Birthday Parties filled with exciting Martial Arts Games and a Black Belt instructor ready to teach awesome techniques to all our birthday guests.

We pledge to make each student’s journey as fun, exciting, and educating as possible. We monitor progress closely and walk with students every step of the way. We believe that being a Martial Artist is not just learning to kick and punch, it is about becoming the best that you can be in every way.

DEMO TEAM - LEADERSHIP TEAM - COMPETITION TEAM

Extracurricular Activities

We have several teams, clubs and special classes for our students to participate in.  These clubs, which are listed below, help cultivate our students’ minds and bodies and increase their confidence, and provide many different types of life experiences that cannot be duplicated elsewhere.

Leadership Team

This team is open to advanced students.  The mission of this team is to produce the leaders of tomorrow by harnessing students’ leadership skills for application in everyday lives.  This team is also preparation for advanced testing.  All students must participate in leadership training before Poom Belt and Black Belt testing.

Demonstration Team

Although anyone may try-out for this team, its members are determined by an evaluation of the student’s abilities by the instructor.  The goal of the Demo Team is to show the beauty, grace and power of martial arts through demonstrations while teaching students teamwork, cooperation and respect.  This team provides students with the opportunity to showcase their talents and abilities, and reinforces the spirit of goodwill that is the underpinning of the martial arts.

Competition Team

A selection process is used to choose the members of this team.  All students who believe they have enough talent, and are willing to put forth sufficient time and effort, are welcome to try out.  Team members will compete for trophies, medals and world ranking.  So, if those competitive juices are flowing within you, don’t miss the next tryouts!

Master Quest (Instructor Program)

Membership in this club is limited exclusively to black belts, and we urge those black belts who wish to attain masterhood and school owner/directorship to join.  This club offers intense training that will teach black belt students what is required if they are to becomes masters and provides information and insight that will be invaluable aids in their quest for perfection.  Members of this club will experience the training of a lifetime

Weapon Program

These classes are open to all students who wish to enhance their martial arts training.  These classes will offer training in a variety of weapons systems of their choice: nunchuks, kamas, competition bo, traditional bo or tradit ional sai.

Acrobatics Program

These classes are open to all students who are willing to work hard and who wish to achieve amazing skills in acrobatics tumbling.  Although any students may join the acrobatics classes, as an addition to their regular martial arts training, hard work and no fear are requirements!

MASTER QUEST - MASTER QUEST

Our Instructor Program

(Master Quest)

We are proud of our very talented instructor, all of whom are continuing their training at our schools.  These individuals, who come from many different parts of the word, have been carefully selected by the Master, and have been provided with an intense training program under his close scrutiny.

Our instructor program usually begins after a student reaches the Poom Belt (1st Gup / Black & Red Belt).  At this point the student, or would-be instructor, already has as least two years of training experience.  Between this rank and Black Belt, the student undergoes six months to one year of professional instructor training.  This training includes the psychology of teaching, professionalism, special teaching techniques, self-defense, and much more.

There are many levels of instructorship.  In order to make each level, our black belt instructors have to teach at least two days a week and train/practice three days a week under the supervision of the Master.  All instructors are re-certified and tested on a regular basis in each level to ensure the highest quality of leadership, professionalism, the latest teaching methods, administration, and excellent service to our students.  The following are the different levels of instructorship, the minimum age for the student, and the years of experience and training required.  Please be aware that with exceptional students, there will be exceptions:

THE PURPOSE OF TRAINING IS TO TIGHTEN THE SLACK TOUGHEN THE BODY AND POLISH SPIRIT

I        Proper Etiquette (Conduct)

Etiquette is not just a simple tradition.  It is part of your practice.  Remember, you are practicing Martial Arts, no “Macho Arts.”  Keeping this in mind, students must observe all rules and etiquettes (written or not)* and display proper student attitude (Martial Arts conduct) in the dojang at all times.  Outside the dojang, students are expected to conduct themselves in a way that will not discredit their teacher, their school, or themselves

Students must always bow before and after speaking to the instructor or black belt and use terms of respect such as “yes, Sir,” “no, Sir,” “pardon me, Sir,” etc.  Slang, street language (e.g. yeah, uh-huh, man, yo, etc.) and swearing have no place in the dojang.  Any instructor’s commands or corrections must be answered with “yes, Sir” or “thank you, Sir.”  Students must not show improper attitude or argue with their teacher or instructor.  If a command or correction is not understood, a student should wait for an appropriate moment and then politely ask the instructor to clarify or explain.

PIL SUNG - VICTORY

II       Tradition and Custom

Martial arts is discipline, and discipline is bound by tradition and custom.  Proper bowing, using two hands, proper standing and sitting posture, use of terminology, demonstration of respect for teacher and senior student, etc., are important parts of the Martial Arts heritage.  (It must be understood, however, that these traditions and customs have nothing to do with any religion and are not intended to conflict with anyone’s religious beliefs.)

III      Proper Salutation

The act of salutation must be done correctly and sincerely.  Otherwise, don’t do it.  It is better to be disrespectful.

The proper way to bow to your teacher:

The correct way of bowing is to put your feet together, your arms by your side, and bow at a 90-degree angle.

The improper ways of bowing:

Bowing with feet apart or looking up.

IV      Beginners (New Students)

New students without prior training will start only with a uniform.  Then, after three weeks, when the student has begun to learn and put to practice the rules and etiquette of the school, he or she will earn a white belt through a “tea ceremony”.  Each new student will be given individualized instruction by an assistant instructor or senior student in the early stages of training.  Since students progress at different rates, initial lessons will be set up on an "as-needed" basis.

V        Class Attendance

Our school is open for classes six to seven days a week for the students' convenience.  However, class attendance of two (2) days per week is sufficient to insure proper development of skills and confidence.  Any more than that is not necessary, unless the student is training for special events.  It is always a good practice to allow your body to rest and recuperate after a stressful training day.  Students should never be late or miss their scheduled class.  However, if this should happen for any reason, it is considered good etiquette to call your teacher or instructor, and let him or her know in advance.

VI      Dress Code

Students are required to wear a TAE KWON DO V-Neck uniform with our school emblems and patches during classes or at official events such as demonstrations, seminars, tournaments and rank testing.  Any other patches or emblems are not allowed unless authorized by the master or instructor.  School T-shirts may be worn only during the summer months (May 1 to Oct 1) to allow for comfortable practice.  Jewelry and watches are not to be worn during training.  Students must wear proper attire in and around the school when class is not in session.  Absolutely no footwear of any kind (shoes, boots, rollerblades, etc.) is allowed beyond the designated point by ANYONE.

VII     Safety Equipment

At no time are students permitted to play-fight or spar without proper equipment and instructor supervision.  Our school believes that everyone needs basic knowledge and skill to perform effectively.  Therefore, students will not begin sparring or free-fighting until 8th or 7th Gup High Yellow or Green.  When the student is ready, the master or instructor will advise him or her to purchase PROPER safety equipment as required by school insurance and regulations.

Proper Safety Equipment for Sparring:

Headgear, mouthpiece, chest protector, gloves, groin protector (males), shin guards and boots.

Other equipment may be purchased but is not required: knee pads, elbow pads, forearm guards and face-mask headgear

VIII    School Services (Help)

Our staff members and black belt instructors are here to help you with any problem you may encounter while training.  They are here to make sure that your training is not interrupted by any means, so if there is a problem with the school billing company or collection agency, a problem with payments, or any question from A to Z, talk to them or ask them to speak to the master.  Keeping this in mind, if you have any questions that are not answered in this handbook, ask a staff member or an instructor.  They are all trained in handling problems that our students may encounter.
